Mock exam (RHCSA-style)

Two RHEL-compatible nodes (AlmaLinux 10) and a services host boot for you. One node's root password is unknown. You get twenty-two tasks, a terminal on each node, and three hours. There are no hints and no per-task checks.

When you end the exam both nodes are restarted and every task is graded on what each node boots into. Work that does not survive a reboot scores nothing, and a node that does not come back scores zero for all of its tasks. The report gives your score out of 300, the pass line, your result by objective group, and the reference solution for every task.

What it covers

• Repositories and packages, users, groups and sudo
• Finding files, text processing, archives and shell scripts
• Partitions, swap, LVM, filesystems, persistent mounts and autofs
• Services, timers, cron, tuned profiles and time synchronisation
• firewalld, SSH keys, SELinux contexts, ports and booleans, ACLs
• Resetting a lost root password from a rescue boot

User names, sizes, ports and mount points are drawn fresh for each sitting.

Prerequisites

The Linux System Administration labs, or the same experience on a real system. This is an exam, not a lesson: nothing in it teaches.

FAQ

How many times can I sit it? Twice. A sitting is used when its clock starts.

Does the clock pause? No. It starts when the machines are ready and runs with the tab closed.

What do I keep? The report: score, checkpoints and solutions. The machines are removed when the sitting ends.
