Every lab starts a whole OpenShift cluster that is yours alone, with a workstation that has oc ready. You begin with the developer side: a project, an application from an image, a build from source and a Route served over TLS. Then the administrator side: who may log in, what they may do, how much a project may consume, and the operators that extend the cluster.

Why practice OpenShift hands-on?

OpenShift is more than Kubernetes: Routes, SCCs, projects and operators each have their own way of working, and you learn it by doing it.
Every lab checks what you actually did on the cluster and tells you what is still missing.
Hands-on OpenShift exams are work on a live cluster with oc, which is exactly what you do here.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a lab take to start?

Several minutes. A whole OpenShift cluster is created for you each time, and the lab opens when it is ready.

Can I always get a cluster?

The number of clusters running at once is limited. When all are in use you are asked to try again in a few minutes.

Do I need to know Kubernetes first?

Yes. You should know pods, deployments and services and be able to read YAML. The Kubernetes labs cover all of it.

Is there a web console?

The labs are done with oc in the terminal, which is what the exam and most day-to-day administration use.
