About this playground

The Docker playground gives you a real Linux machine with Docker Engine running, plus Docker Compose, Buildx and git. Run containers, build images from a Dockerfile, bring up a whole stack with Compose, or see how networks and volumes behave, without installing Docker on your computer.

Frequently asked questions

Can I try Docker online for free?

Yes. With a free account you open a Linux machine with Docker running in your browser, for 60-minute sessions. When one ends you can start another straight away.

Do I need Docker Desktop?

No. Docker runs on the machine you open, and you type the commands in a terminal in your browser. It even works from a work laptop you are not allowed to install software on.

Is Docker Compose included?

Yes, docker compose is ready, along with Buildx for more ways to build images.

Do images and containers survive the session?

No. The machine is deleted when the session ends. Push the image to a registry, or keep the Dockerfile and compose file in Git.

Want graded Docker exercises?

The Docker labs have real tasks: build an image, fix a broken Dockerfile, bring a fallen service back, and the result is checked.
