About this playground
The Linux playground gives you a real Ubuntu machine with a root terminal in your browser. Try any command you read about, install packages, create users and permissions, run a service with systemd or practise networking commands. If you break something, no harm done: the next session starts on a clean machine.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free online Linux terminal?
Yes. With a free account you open a terminal on a real Ubuntu machine in your browser, for 60-minute sessions. When one ends you can start another straight away.
Can I practise Linux commands without installing anything?
Yes, that is what it is for. All you need is a modern browser: no virtual machine, no dual boot, no WSL.
Do I get root access?
Yes. The terminal opens as root, so you can install packages, edit system files and run services.
What happens if I break the system?
Nothing. The machine is deleted when the session ends, or you can end the session yourself and start a clean one.
Want set exercises instead of an empty machine?
Try the Linux labs: each has a real task (users and permissions, systemd, networking, storage) and checks that tell you whether you passed.
