How it works
A playground is a ready machine you open in your browser and use however you like, with no task and no grading. Pick Linux, Docker, Jenkins or K3s, try a command you read about, test an idea before you run it at work, or break something to see how it fails. When the session ends the machine is deleted, and you can open a clean one straight away.
Frequently asked questions
How is a playground different from a lab?
A lab has a set task, steps and checks that tell you whether you passed. A playground is an empty, ready machine for whatever you want to try, with no task and no checks.
Are the playgrounds free?
Yes. Linux, Docker, Jenkins and K3s are free with a free account. A session lasts 60 minutes and you can start another as soon as it ends. The multi-node Kubernetes cluster is part of Academy Pro.
Is there a free online Linux terminal with nothing to install?
Yes. The Linux playground opens a terminal on a real Ubuntu machine in your browser. It is not a simulator: you can install packages, run services and edit any file.
Is my work saved?
No. When the session ends the machine is deleted, and the next session starts on a new one. To keep something, push it to a Git repository or copy it to your computer before the time runs out.
Why do I need an account?
Every session is a real machine created for you, so we need to know whose it is. The account is free; new accounts unlock playgrounds a little after verifying their email, or straight away after passing a few free labs.
